Hi everyone!!
Sorry to have disappeared! I no longer have internet at home, so I'm not actively blogging anymore...but wanted to pop in. I'd like to introduce you to the newest member of my two-wheeled family, built at Speedway Cycles in Anchorage, BIG BLUE!!!
Big blue was picked up with much excitement after getting stranded in Palmer during a historical freezing rain event in much of the central and eastern corridor of Alaska where I pouted (because I was only 60 miles of ice-covered roads away from my bike), slept, and ate for a day waiting for the weather to improve. Luckily I had my trusty partner with me during the shenanigans, and he got us back safely the 360 miles north to Fairbanks while the freezing rain event was still occurring in Interior Alaska itself.
Upon return, I immediately suited up big blue to be 'race-ready'... I am ready to roll!
Big blue makes wide tracks, and enables me to make tracks all around the winter snowpack in the yard. I like that I can power through it and not get stuck.
Big blue and I tried to go adventuring, but the White Mountains attracted a crap ton of snow on a barely used trail, and instead we went for a walk with some minimal riding.
Since then I have been busy, or it has been abnormally cold out, but we have been able to go out for some local rides. Unfortunately, unless I have a day off, I don't get to play outside in the sunshine this time of year.
A lot of adventuring has occurred in the last couple of months, and Brian has taught me a new sport - 'alpine cross skiing' as he calls it. I'm not sure if that is a coined term, but it is a superbly fun sport. You get towed behind the snowmachine, which can go as slow or as fast as the skier would like. (Think Arctic Man, but not as scary.) There are endless opportunities to ski up here, so needless to say, I have not been disappointed!
Hope everyone has a great Christmas/Hanukkah/New Year as 2010 wraps up. What a year it's been!
